4 Closet Swaps to Make This Summer
If you’re in the middle of spring cleaning, here are some considerations for your subsequent purchases and finds. From shoes and accessories to dresses and details - I’ve got you covered! I will be discussing what trends from runway and designer fashion will be expected to make a hit this season and recommend some of my favorite items. Lastly, if you are considering getting rid of clothing, you don’t wear anymore, donating or reselling it is always a better option for the environment than discarding it altogether. You can do this at any local thrift and charity shop!
Swap Knee High Boots for Sandals and Wedges
This past fall, knee-high boots were all the rage. Paired with mini skirts and oversized blazers, these boots were a great way to achieve the off-duty model look around town. As summer approaches, however, platform sandals and wedges are a great way to achieve a summer version of this look. Stylish sandals in bright colours or pastels are also another way to add a bit of colour and fun to your outfit. Check out some of my favorite styles that are available this season.

Swap Biker Shorts for Bermuda Length Shorts
Biker shorts have had their run, but I wasn’t the biggest fan. I think they paired well with an oversized blazer but could quickly look awkward when styling. This summer, Bermuda length shorts are becoming a hit, with their flowy shapes in all sizes. Opt for sweatsuit material for a cute matching set or a pair of linen shorts for breathable fabrics this summer. While I’m still a little on the fence about Bermuda length denim, I love that they provide a more extended option for the infamous summer jean short look. Check out some of my recommendations to cop a pair this summer.

Swap Tie-Dye for Crochet Pieces
Between the pandemic and TikTok trends, tie-dye became a fun, at-home, do-it-yourself project last summer. With association to freedom, hippie culture, and the 70s, this trend makes for a well-suited summertime trend. This summer, crochet has become the new tie-dye. From skirts to bags to dresses - crochet has been spotted on the runway and the streets. The best part is that crochet pieces can be made from the comfort of your own home and makes for a fun DIY clothing activity if you are up to it! However, if you are looking for some pre-made pieces, I recommend looking on Etsy and Depop for some small businesses and sellers to support. Check out some of the following shops and pieces I’ve found!
Handmade Pink, Green and Yellow Crochet top - $50.00 from Etsy Seller @irisdesignboutique based out of Toronto
PDF Pattern for Checkered Bags - $12.36 from Etsy Seller @nastjacrochets
Swap Big Bows for Dainty Ties
Arguably the most significant trend this summer will be midriff floss and dainty tie top details. As seen in the Jacquemus spring summer 2021 runway collection, there were lots of simplistic string and tie elements in many of the pieces adding risque elegance. Looking at Versace’s spring-summer 2021 runway show, midriff floss and wrapping were also apparent patterns. With the resurgence of y2k fashion, this is not all surprising. G-strings sitting at the hips were huge in Y2K fashion, and in 2021 they’ve made a comeback appearing as delicate details to add to minimalist looks. Here are some of my favorite finds to jump on this trend!
