QFIN Picks: Fashion Publications
Looking for a new platform that speaks out on current fashion trends, events, collaborations, or anything new in the world of fashion? There are many publications that showcase visuals and content that aligns with an aesthetic and mission statement. Fashion publications are widely available in paper and online and are a contemporary method of consuming all things fashion. A few of QFIN’s executive members share with you their favourite fashion publications in hopes to turn your eye to a new perspective and become a member of a new audience.
Business of Fashion
Lauren Benchetrit (she/her), Co-President: “I first found the Business of Fashion in high school, when I was trying to discuss and learn more about fashion but unable to learn from the streamlined news I was used to. Now, BoF is a publication I check as often as my other socials! Business of Fashion is a fashion news publication that combines independent, agenda-setting journalism with practical business advice. They also have learning opportunities and tools for career building, as well as events to immerse yourself into the industry and learn more about fashion from a global standpoint. BoF allows me to feel more knowledgeable on topical issues in fashion and shows the vast opportunities that are available to anyone willing to put in the effort to learn more. It’s a PHENOMENAL resource to anyone remotely interested in fashion (plus you can get a student account FOR FREE when you sign up with your student email!).”
Vogue Magazine
Logan Ramsay (she/her), Co-Online Assistant: “Although it might be a common answer, Vogue magazine has always been my go to when it comes to fashion publications. I discovered Teen Vogue when I was younger and became obsessed with creating my own looks. Vogue is an online and in print publication that produces articles and photoshoots highlighting everything from politics to pop culture. I love that Vogue has offices all over the globe and allows each location to produce their own magazine, for example Vogue Italia. Seeing the influence of fashion in different cultures and how those cultures choose to portray fashion will always fascinate me.”
TikTok and IG: @NolanDanielWhite
Nick Rodd (he/him), Social Coordinator: “QFIN Alumni Nolan Daniel White has amassed well over 100k followers on TikTok, has started his own brand, Balfe Park, in the fall of 2021, and is working with Aaron Levine, a creative consultant for fashion brands such as Aimé Leon Dore. I had the pleasure of working with and befriending Nolan on QFIN’s 2021-2022 executive team. Nolan has great taste in all cultural subjects, whether it be fashion, architecture, music, or interior design. What makes Nolan’s content so valuable to me is his immense knowledge on so many subjects. Whether it be how to stretch out a stubborn pair of loafers, or shopping for a new watch, I know there’s probably a TikTok video Nolan’s made that explains exactly how to do it. And if there isn’t? I never feel rude messaging him and asking him the question personally.”
BLANK Magazine
Isabella Hamilton (she/her), Co-Online Assistant: “BLANK is a digital collective based in Toronto that aims to give a platform to those who are often dismissed in creative spaces. They are not afraid to address controversial topics and act as a safe haven for fashion lovers and haters alike. They release weekly online articles, as well as digital publications. I found BLANK through TikTok when they were shooting for their first issue, and they are currently working on issue03. I love the way that BLANK has opened up their online submissions to anyone with an interest in writing about fashion, no matter your background. As fellow lovers (and haters) of the fashion industry, BLANK is a great resource for QFIN members and readers if you're interested in broadening your knowledge on the fashion industry, while learning about topics that aren't always mainstream.”
