QFIN Picks: Style Inspiration

Everyone has their own personal fashion sense; whether they know it yet or not. Individual creativity can manifest itself in many ways, and as we know, fashion and clothes are often an enjoyable way to express any feeling or mood (or just wear a cute and cool outfit you feel good in). To find what you like and don’t like in terms of colours, aesthetics, fabrics, and silhouettes, we commonly turn to our style inspirations to guide us in a direction we admire. Inspiration can come in countless ways and any creative direction you choose to go in unfolds from a place of enthusiasm and motivation. To broaden the horizon of style innovation and individuality, here are some of our executive team member’s favourite style inspirations!

Ruby Lyn

Maddy Spriet (she/her), Co-President: “Ruby’s style has a very casual and effortless vibe but also every outfit fits together perfectly. I feel like we both wear much of the same silhouettes such as low waisted pants/skirts, platform shoes, corsets, open necklines, and baby tees. I came to admire her style as she is a big thrifting advocate. I think her laidback city girl style is definitely one you want to keep an eye on for inspiration every season to come!”

Hailey Bieber

Emma Walton (she/her), Production Coordinator: “I find Hailey’s fashion inspiring when I am looking for outfits that are everyday wear. Her outfits incorporate simple pieces but in a coordinated way that give off an elaborate heightened sense of style. An Hailey-inspired outfit I would wear encompasses the classic and effortless pieces she is often seen wearing; oversized blazers, jeans, miniskirts and Jordan’s. I would recommend her style because it’s perfect for relaxed streetwear, something I find is an easy way to dress everyday.”

Lawrence Schlossman

Nick Rodd (he/him), Social Coordinator: “Lawrence Schlossman, co-host and founder of fashion and lifestyle podcast Throwing Fits, has been an inspiration of mine back when I was formulating elitist fashion opinions as a 15 year old, thanks to his parody fashion blog Four Pins. Larry’s style and vast social network of everyone-with-immaculate-taste leads him to be one of the most respected non-celebrity fashion icons in New York City, and continues to regularly introduce me to new brands, soon-to-be trends, and niche knowledge I would otherwise be ignorant of. What makes Laurence a worthy style inspiration for me, is that despite being a big name in the New York fashion media world, having worked as a core-member of the early grailed team, and styling rappers for their music videos, such as Playboi Carti for his “Magnolia” video, he is ultimately a regular dude dressing how he wants. Although Laurence doesn’t stray too far away from traditional masculine aesthetics, he pushed the envelope for me personally, giving me the confidence to wear what looks good and feel goods, rather than wearing what a traditional high school and later university boy would wear in southern Ontario.”

Zendaya

Makaila Atsonglo (she/her), Membership Coordinator: “From casual streetwear to elegant events, Zendaya has the ability to look both effortless and powerful no matter what she chooses to wear. Her personal style is versatile while her everyday looks are cool and edgy, but always comfortable and neutral. She always manages to surprise people and capture their attention by switching it up with a pop of colour, paying homage to previous centuries, or exploring a new silhouette. For the daytime, I love to play around with neutrals and basics for a casual off-duty model look and for nights out, I try to push boundaries and explore outfits outside of my comfort zone.”

Kelsey Kotzur

Lauren Benchetrit (she/her), Co-President: “Kelsey Kotzur is my absolute favourite influencer; she’s based in New York, loves functional style, but still thinks outside the box. She is not outrageously extra and she is so easy to love from a content consumer perspective. I love how real she is, and how normal of a life she portrays living while still making the most of her 20s. Highly recommend her content if you’re looking for a bit of normalcy in your feed!”

Hannah Godwin

Annie Weber (she/her), Logistics Director: “Hannah Godwin can be recognized as a contestant on Colton’s season of The Bachelor. Ever since, I have been inspired by her sense of fashion. Hannah dresses with confidence and often elevates basic pieces that are timeless. She wears a lot of dresses and trousers paired with classic tops. Hannah always looks polished and her personality is able to shine through even the most basic of outfits. I try to dress with the same confidence so I can be my best self during the day. Unforgettable looks can be as simple as a classic outfit with the right accessories.”
