That’s Nepotism, Baby

Everyone loves a good “rags to riches” plot line or a “started from the bottom now we’re here” type of story. So when it comes to Hollywood, it’s interesting to find out that many of the faces gracing our silver screens  follow a much less daunting path to fame. In fact, for almost half of the industry, celebrity status isn’t just a goal to be obtained, it's a birthright. And that’s called nepotism, baby.

Inheritance now  takes on a whole new meaning; not only does it entitle fabulous estates and teeming trust funds, but also an inherited A status in an industry known for its cut throat style and exclusive member policy. Nepotism babies, or “nepos” as the internet has so lovingly dubbed them, are born with not just a permanent foot in the door, but rather an open door policy to whichever career path they choose to follow. With families of power, wealth, and incredible social standing, nepos are free to play the “do you know who my dad is?” card whenever they wish.

As you might assume, nepotism babies receive mixed reviews. Although the world teaches us that life isn’t fair, nepotism babies make this even more clear. It’s like running a race, but some athletes are given, oh, just  a 10 year head start. Everyone starts life at different jumping-off points, it just seems that sometimes your jump has to begin a whole lot higher than those born from wealthy parents.

On the other hand, nepos have some of the most loyal fan bases and followings in spite of their claim to fame (or lack thereof). Many fans are passionate in the fact that nepotism babies are fully deserving of their fame, and would have achieved their place in the industry solely based on their talent. After all, it is important not to judge someone based on where they come from -  even if it gives them an immense advantage. What we can judge is how these born celebrities use their easily acquired platforms and status to influence society and the world.

So are you in or are you out on the nepos? Are they insufferable spoiled kids of celebs or well-deserving talents who can’t control who their parents are? Either way, we can’t deny that they hold value in today’s entertainment industry, and are even spotted wearing some of the coolest fashion (parents’) money can buy.

Below I have included some of my favourite looks from some nepotism babies of the industry today - you might even see a familiar face or two from your tv screen.
