NYFW Recap: Bolder, Brighter, Better

With New York Fashion Week coming to a close, we take a look back at our favourite runways to countdown our top 10 favourite trends!

CHECKMATE: Just in time for back to school, the classic checkered print makes us reminiscent of the days of school uniforms... but not really. Unlike our old uniforms, designers used the pattern in unexpected places, like oversized jackets, to keep things looking up-to-date and modern!

PLAY BALL: Ah athleisure, the trend that just won't disappear... Not that we're complaining! This season, windbreakers and trackpants showed up on numerous runways, showing us that style and comfort can co-exist. Unexpected twists, such as exposed hips, make a statement and keeps things fresh!

SHINE BRIGHT: From metallics to glitter to sequins, this season was all about being the star of the show. Avoid looking tacky by pairing sparkles with simple silhouettes and keep all other accessories to a minimum. Now get out there and channel your inner disco queen!

SUIT UP: Revamp your workplace wardrobe with these reconstructed/deconstructed suit looks and turn heads in the office. Whether you add a bold print to a classic pant suit or revitalize the suit completely, the following looks will make the weekdays a little more exciting for any modern woman!

SHEER CONFIDENCE: Love it or hate it, see-through fabrics are back! Make a statement by going braless (#freethenipple !) or add an unique element by laying to create a peek-a-boo moment. This light, airy trend is perfect for spring for showing off your body or whatever you're hiding underneath!

UNDERWEAR AS OUTERWEAR: Despite the weather now cooling down, the runways were heating up with bra trends. Summer may be ending, but wearing your bralette as a shirt or showing off a little underboob never seems to go out of style. Keep it classy by only giving a sneak peek and leaving an air of mystery.

LINED AND LOVED: Another classic print is back and we could not be more excited. Stripes look good on everyone from Instagram it-girl Bella Hadid to up-and-coming Charlee Fraser to lovely, wonderful YOU! Opt for thin stripes for a more refined, sleek look and choose thick stripes to make a statement.

BIGGER IS BETTER: Let's be honest, the bigger the coat = the cozier = the better. To stand out  in a crowd, choose a jacket in a bold pattern or a neon colour. Or choose a neutral, like white or tan, for a timeless look to last the ages. Create interesting shapes by playing with the dimensions of your jacket and rest of your outfit!

NO PANTS? NO PROBLEM: Skip one step in your morning routine and ditch your pants! Okay, so maybe not, but take queues from designers this season and try out oversized t-shirts and miniscule hot pants to elongate your legs and elevate your confidence!

RAINBOW FEELING: Finally, for the biggest trend of the week... BRIGHTS. Summer may be over, but don't go switching to all-black and neutral-only outfits. Whether you choose to mix and match hues or stick to one neon, you'll be sure to stand out in a crowd!
